Easy peasy crochet beanie complete! The pattern from Ravelry recommended 14 rounds of stitches — I think I ended up doing double that! It just wasn’t big enough (it looked quite hilarious actually, it didn’t even cover Erika’s little ears). I added a double crochet edge with a light grey yarn to finish it off. I like the gathered folds at the top for a little one, but think it might look a bit odd on a grown man — hubby needs a new beanie for the cold walk to the train station each morning, I think I’ll try to find a more suitable pattern!
And if Erika doesn’t like wearing it, or when she outgrows it, it can double as a mini yarn basket!

LOVE LOVE LOVE it! And love its multipurpose-ness! Where did you find your yarn? I’m trying to find some to make a winter scarf but am lucking out…

Hi Tash! The beanie is made from a Cleckheaton 10-ply yarn, which you can find just about anywhere (even Spotlight), but when I want something extra special, I trek into the city to visit Morris & Sons. They’re located on the top floor at 234 Collins Street, and an absolute dream come true. So much wooly goodness. My second port of call is Clegs on Elizabeth Street, Melbourne, and my third is Wool Baa in Albert Park. I’ve also been following a little shop called Yarn & Co. in Fitzroy on Instagram, and they seem good too, though I haven’t visited yet. I would love to see your scarf when you’re done!

I actually went to Morris & Sons last week for the first time; they are fantastic! I didn’t buy anything though as I was too befuddled with the choice! Will have to hit Clegs and the Wool Baa again, methinks… Have you tried Sunspun in Canterbury? They have a great selection. Did Spotlight yesterday and did some some nice stuff so will probably just go back there. Thought you may have some special place tucked up your sleeve! Kisses to Little Miss in all her cuteness xx

Oh yes, Morris & Sons can be totally overwhelming! I was there recently, Deano went downstairs to Dymocks with Erika, so I was conscious of not spending too much time making my choices — so hard to be speedy with so much to choose from! Spotlight yarns aren't bad (you can't go wrong with Cleckheaton and Patons), but their selection of crochet hooks is woeful. I did make an impulse purchase of some Panda yarn at 40% off there the other day, and some enormous 15mm knitting needles to make a scarf, so the sales are handy… and it's a lot easier to get to than the CBD! Looking forward to catching up with you all when Marg and Ian are back in town. xo
